Welcome to the Sycuan Inter-Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Program Blog

We are excited to launch the official blog for the Sycuan Inter-Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Program (SITVR)—a space dedicated to sharing stories, resources, and updates about our mission to empower Native Americans with disabilities on and near the Kumeyaay reservations in San Diego County.

About SITVR

SITVR provides culturally oriented vocational rehabilitation services to adults and transition-aged youth with disabilities. Our goal is to help participants prepare for, obtain, and retain meaningful employment—including self-employment—by honoring each individual’s unique strengths, interests, and cultural background. We serve members of the Kumeyaay tribes and other enrolled Native Americans living on or near the 12 Kumeyaay reservations15.

What Makes SITVR Unique?

  • Individualized Support: Every participant works with our team to develop a personalized plan for employment, ensuring services are tailored to their specific needs and aspirations1.
  • Cultural Integration: We recognize the importance of integrating traditional practices—such as ceremonies, healing, and Wellbriety meetings—into the rehabilitation process, supporting both personal and professional growth1.
  • Family and Youth Focus: SITVR is committed to supporting transition-aged youth and their families, providing advocacy at school meetings and guidance as students prepare for life after high school1.

Our Impact

SITVR has helped hundreds of Native Americans with disabilities access training and job placement services, promoting independence and self-sufficiency. By focusing on the abilities—not disabilities—of our community members, we strive to create pathways to employment and economic empowerment15.
